Hazte Oír and CitizenGO take the defence of Ceuta to Brussels: “Protecting Ceuta means protecting Europe’s border”

  • Hazte Oír and CitizenGO have gone to the European Parliament to denounce the migration offensive facing Ceuta and demand a firm response from the EU institutions to Morocco’s blackmail. The organisations accuse Pedro Sánchez’s government of abandoning the people of Ceuta and endangering the security of all of Europe.

BRUSSELS, 13 August 2026. — Hazte Oír and CitizenGO, its international platform, have brought the preocupante situation facing Ceuta to the political heart of the European Union. Both organisations maintain that Europe is facing a hybrid war in which human trafficking networks, the instrumentalisation and separation of minors, and demographic pressure are being used as weapons against Spain and the Union as a whole.

The irregular entry of nearly 100,000 people has overwhelmed Ceuta and its public services. Hazte Oír denounces that Mohammed VI is using migration flows as an instrument of political pressure, while Pedro Sánchez’s socialist government gives in to Rabat, fails to effectively defend the border, and shifts the consequences onto the people of Ceuta and the rest of Spain.

“Ceuta is Spain and it is Europe. Morocco uses human beings, including minors, to subject our country to intolerable blackmail. Pedro Sánchez has abandoned the people of Ceuta and turned a European border into a bargaining chip with Mohammed VI,” said Ignacio Arsuaga, president of Hazte Oír.

The crisis has already caused serious concern in other European countries. Italy has temporarily reinstated checks on travellers arriving from Spain in response to the security risks arising from the mass influx. Faced with this preventive measure, the Spanish government has responded by imposing checks on Italian travellers, instead of holding Morocco accountable and regaining effective control of Ceuta.

“Europe cannot look the other way while a neighbouring country uses immigration and the suffering of minors as political weapons. We have come to the European Parliament to seek protection for Ceuta and a common response to Morocco. Defending this border means protecting the security, sovereignty and future of all Europeans,” said Sebastián Lukomski, a CitizenGO campaigner.
